Tokyo, Japan –
January 12, 2006 - Maximum Throughput Inc. (www.max-t.com),
developers of ultra high performance software-based solutions for networked
storage infrastructure and media management, announced today that Qtec
Inc., (www.qtec.ne.jp)
a market-leading post production company based in Tokyo, has acquired
a Sledgehammer HD!O for use in their Akasaka Studio.
Qtec has earned an excellent reputation for technical
expertise across a range of post production services that the company
offers. A Sledgehammer HD!O system was recently installed in the Digital
Master and DVD Production Division, one of their core businesses. For
DVD production, Sledgehammer HD!O is currently being used as a high
quality capture system for next generation HD DVD encoding. HD DVD is
a market that is expected to grow considerably in the near future. And,
since the demand for an efficient, dependable HD process in digital
film mastering and animation is on the rise, they also expect to use
Sledgehammer HD!O as a high quality I/O station.
“We installed Sledgehammer as an I/O station initially, even though
we understand that it’s not only a DDR but a high speed NAS server
as well. I think rock solid reliability and stable operation are the
most important factors to look for in an I/O station. Also, in order
to increase our productivity, transfer rate is the essential factor
because it decides how quickly we can allocate captured source materials
where we need them. We found Sledgehammer to be the most reliable option
among the DDRs we tested,” said Mikio Aonuki, General Manager,
Engineering Division, DVD Production Division.
Izumi Sinohara of Mitomo Co. Ltd., who brokered this installation, explains,
“Qtec has been using SAN solutions and other NAS systems. They
have installed a facility-wide Gigabit Ethernet (Gig-E) infrastructure
that serves their post production editing suites, audio suites, DVD
authoring and digital mastering facilities. When we heard about Sledgehammer
for the first time, we thought it was the ideal solution for a company
like Qtec. We thought Qtec could use Sledgehammer as a gateway, enabling
them to better utilize their existing infrastructure and, consequently,
improving their workflow.”
Aonuki continued, “MAXmedia™ provides us with a unique capability
– real-time up/down conversion. As data traffic increases, we
expect that MAXmedia has even more potential as a media management solution.
It can manage source materials while performing tasks such as re-mastering,
DVD authoring, offline/online and audio finishing, and it gives us access
to metadata like timecode. We expect a lot from the application, especially
considering the additional features we understand are already in development.”
