– January 6, 2006 – Maximum Throughput Inc.
(www.max-t.com), developers of ultra high performance software-based
solutions for networked storage infrastructure and media management,
announced today the release of version 2.5 of Sledgehammer™. This
release will deliver a broad range of customer requested features and
capabilities, and introduces a revamped version of MAXmedia with new
media processing and organizational functionality. End-users will benefit
from enhanced productivity tools and unique control over digital content
throughout the entire post-production process.
MAXmedia is an application specifically designed to cater to colorists,
editors, visual effects artists and I/O operators with a rich toolset
for digital content preparation and management from acquisition to delivery.
MAXmedia requires no software installation, and provides facility-wide
access to Sledgehammer. Sledgehammer’s high-performance, open
and centralized storage is extended with real-time audio and video I/O,
playback and DDR emulation, project-based content management, offline
and online media assembly, formats and standards conversion, image color
as well as spatial and temporal processing. MAXmedia streamlines the
entire production workflow to increase the amount of billable time,
and simplify the workflow through any facility. Now, with the release
of Sledgehammer 2.5, MAXmedia has been enhanced to meet users’
needs with a richer, more robust toolset that’s faster and easier
to use.
“Engineered to deliver on Max-T’s vision to provide high-speed,
media-aware storage appliances, centralizing not only data serving but
data processing as well, the release of Sledgehammer 2.5 is balanced
with several key additions and enhancements that have been incorporated
in response to customer feedback,” commented Maximum Throughput
Vice President of Engineering Mahmoud Al-Daccak. “Additionally,
we have improved our tight integration with film and video equipment
from vendors like Cintel, da Vinci, Panasonic and Pandora, just to name
a few. These refinements make Sledgehammer an ideal productivity-boosting
film & video appliance to add to any telecine or color grading room.”
The major new features available with Sledgehammer 2.5 include: EDL
import, assembly, and export support with a customizable parsing engine
that can interpret and extract vendor-specific comments; real-time 3:2
insertion/removal support in all modes to enable smooth transitions
between 24 fps and 30 fps material and optimize storage use; multi-resolution
timeline support with Alpha (Key) channel support so that any desired
format can be delivered with the push of a button; real-time Timecode
and text overlay as well as enhanced timeline editing tools in offline
mode, allowing multiple users to build, save and playback timelines,
and concurrently assemble and prepare media sequences using new image
crop, pan, scan and scale tools along with formats/standards conversion
and clip sequence renaming/renumbering capabilities which facilitate
many required housekeeping tasks – even while the system is attending
to a real-time I/O operation or network file access requests. Sledgehammer
2.5 also provides enhanced Digital Intermediate and telecine support
with full Timecode and Keycode handling, as well as new project-based
content organization tools to better serve a post facility workflow.
The revamped user interface provides much faster access to content via
different clip browsing and viewing options that greatly improve the
productivity and usability of the system.
“With this release we’ve dramatically simplified the frequent
and often billable operations that have to get done in any facility
hundreds of times a week – things like telecine transfers, dubbing
in multiple resolutions for offline and online work, proxy generation,
and file formatting,” said Michael Hughes, Maximum Throughput
Vice President of Product Marketing. Overall, Sledgehammer 2.5 offers
the two-fold benefit of new, field-tested functionality that caters
to production and post needs while providing the necessary support tools
for System Administrators.”
