(www.max-t.com), a provider of high speed networked storage and media management solutions, announced today that R!OT Santa Monica (www.rioting.com), a division of Ascent Media, is utilizing a Sledgehammer HD!O system for real-time 2K & HD playback, the ingest of material, and as additional shared storage for their facility. Sledgehammer HD!O was recently used for real-time HD playback of digital dailies during production of the feature film The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3D. R!OT joins a rapidly growing list of prominent customers for Maximum Throughput in the United States, Europe, Canada, and Asia. R!OT was looking to streamline their production pipeline by acquiring the Sledgehammer HD!O. Having the ability to playback HD and 2K material in real-time is a key feature that is in constant use for digital dailies and output to videotape. Sledgehammer HD!O was chosen for its unique ability to provide this feature. The Sledgehammer HD!O allows R!OT Santa Monica to first render and copy files to the server, and then directly output the material to videotape. This saves time, as once the material exists on the Sledgehammer, it does not need to be converted for recording the material directly to tape. Sledgehammer HD!O is also being used as an HD ingest station, freeing up billing revenue centers for project work instead of housekeeping tasks such as acquisition and output of content. The ability to free up these billing revenue centers is an extremely important benefit for R!OT. Sledgehammer integrated quickly and easily into the large heterogeneous network environment that exists at R!OT. Currently, R!OT has several discreet advanced systems including flame, smoke, inferno, and fire, all utilizing the Sledgehammer HD!O as central storage and as an ingest station for content. In addition, there are also several dozen desktop workstations and a render farm of 100 nodes concurrently sharing content on the Sledgehammer HD!O. We were looking for a central storage solution and evaluated different options. We chose Sledgehammer for its ability to handle our 2K material as well as serve and store content throughout our facility. Sledgehammer HD!O solved a variety of pipeline problems by providing real-time 2K playback and HD input and output.
