Veritas DGC Selects Maximum Throughput For
Houston Seismic Data Processing Center

Sledgehammer Network Attached Storage (NAS) Engine Provides High Performance and Capacity Availability

MONTREAL, April 22, 2002 – Maximum Throughput Inc. (www.max-t.com), a developer and provider of high-performance enterprise-class networked storage solutions, today announced that Veritas DGC (NYSE/TSE: VTS) has purchased a Sledgehammer NAS Engine as the first stage of a move from Direct Attach Storage (DAS) to NAS within its seismic processing environment at its global headquarters in Houston, Texas. Veritas DGC subjected the Sledgehammer product to a grueling series of tests to demonstrate its performance and reliability. The ability to deploy existing storage within the NAS environment was a significant factor in the choice of this product and it will enable a rapid transition from the DAS model to a NAS environment.

"Our evaluations and testing of the Sledgehammer have shown performance numbers that finally take NAS into the really useful world. With Sledgehammer, NAS is no longer a compromise but a viable alternative to direct attached storage. When coupled with Max-T’s InfinArray product, the enhanced solution will provide a common pool of storage, for a large number of servers, accessible at direct attach speeds. " said Ted Mariner, Vice President, Advanced Hardware and Software Systems for Veritas.

Sledgehammer is based on commodity hardware and supports a wide range of storage arrays, enabling Veritas to deploy it in front of pre-existing high-performance DAS arrays. The resulting configuration is utilized as a consolidated networked storage system accessed by high performance compute clusters that are used for seismic data processing. The planned configuration at Veritas enables these powerful clusters to manipulate and interpret terabytes of geophysical data and to produce geophysical surveys that are used by the petroleum industry worldwide to manage exploration risk and to enhance drilling and production success.

“The selection of Sledgehammer by Veritas as the NAS engine for the grueling throughput demands of seismic processing validates our assertion that smart software can extract an enormous amount of sustained performance out of cost-effective, off-the-shelf boxes,” said Gautham Sastri, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Maximum Throughput. "This sale marks an important milestone in Max-T’s history and demonstrates our commitment to delivering the fastest and most scalable networked storage solutions available at any price.”

The Sledgehammer NAS Engine occupies only 4U of rack space and can be connected to over 8 Tbytes of high-performance storage manufactured by a wide range of vendors. Recently published eTesting Labs test results (http://www.etestinglabs.com/main/reports/maxthru.asp) showed Sledgehammer sets a new industry benchmark for networked storage solutions by achieving peak throughput of 240.34 Mbytes per second (1,922.72 Mbps), more than five times faster than competing products from mainstream vendors. Maximum Throughput storage solutions enable customers to create scalable, reliable and highly manageable storage networks by combining innovative software with standard industry hardware. Max-T’s software is designed to eliminate the need for proprietary hardware, works in both *NIX and Windows™ environments, and can be installed in less than 30 minutes.
