MONTREAL, September 13, 2002 - Maximum Throughput Inc. (www.max-t.com), a developer and provider of high-performance, enterprise-class networked storage solutions, today announced that Asylum Visual Effects has selected a Sledgehammer network attached storage (NAS) system for its computer generated imagery (CGI) department. A premiere postproduction facility based in Santa Monica, Asylums credits include Minority Report, Pearl Harbor, Gone in 60 Seconds, X Men, Blackhawk Down, Spy Games, and more. Asylum has conducted extensive stress testing of the Sledgehammer system since early March."Until recently, NAS had never been an option for us," said Tommy Hooper, Director of Technology at Asylum. "We simply needed more speed than was ever cost-effective to buy using other NAS technologies. Max-T has changed the market dynamics with Sledgehammer. We can now reap the multi-protocol benefits of NAS with no compromises. We evaluated many systems prior to making our decision, and Sledgehammer was the clear winner." Sledgehammer is a combination of commodity hardware and smart software, optimized for moving data at unparalleled speeds onto or off of an IP-based network. Sledgehammer can consolidate all the storage needs of a post-production facility regardless of the data sets in use. Additionally, the fact that Sledgehammer is a true NAS device means that regardless of the client platforms in use (e.g. Windows, UNIX, Linux, Mac, etc.), all can access the same data at the same time. Unique in the industry, Max-T has no license transfer fees associated with its products. As commodity hardware gets faster, so will Sledgehammerwith no additional software-related costs. A customer need only purchase its own new hardware at prevailing commodity pricing. "There has been a noticeable trend in digital content creation (DCC) away from 'big iron' systems towards commodity platform based applications for accelerated, clustered rendering. This is a phenomena that took hold years ago in the 3D segment of the market, and which is only now emerging across the board," said Michael Hughes, Max-Ts vice-president, business development, DCC. "With any such change, facility infrastructure must evolve to match the new workflow and economic realities. It has been a true pleasure working with our colleagues at Asylum as they start to make this transition." About Maximum Throughput Maximum Throughput Inc.
